Akae kutani- 赤絵九谷 At the end of the Edo period (1603-1867), Kutani ware with a distinctive "red" color (called Akakutani, as opposed to Iroe or Aote) was produced, and it quickly spread throughout Kaga. The beauty of the style was highly valued, and by the middle of the Meiji period (1868-1912), some Akakutani ware was classified as a style called "Kutani akae" (red painting).
